South Korea plans to increase 4 gigawatts solar and offshore wind power combinations by 2022

South Korean President Moon Jae-in announced Tuesday that the country plans to build 4 gigawatts of solar and offshore wind power facilities in the Saemangeum area.
Wen said that the future large-scale complex will be located in the mountains of Quanluo North Road and will receive 10 trillion won ($8.8 billion) in investment for projects.

South Korean media say the plan involves increasing 1 gigawatts of offshore wind power and 3 gigawatts of solar generating capacity.

The huge complex is scheduled to start operation in 2022. In addition to the power plant, the project will also increase the relevant manufacturers and research institutions.

As part of an energy plan launched in December last year, South Korea aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its total power mix to 20% by 2030 to reduce its dependence on coal and nuclear power.
