Ankit received Norway Euro 110 million HVDC cable project order
NKT, the leading cable manufacturer in Europe, has received an authorization from Equinor Energy AS to supply and install 200 km 80 kV HVDC offshore power cables for the second phase of the Johan Sverdrup oilfield development project in Norway.
The formal contract is expected to be completed within a few weeks, with a value of up to 110 million euros. The cable system consists of 2 x 200 km of cable, which constitutes a symmetrical (+80 kV) HVDC transmission solution. It is expected that the cable manufacturing will be completed by the end of 2019.

NKT provides a turnkey HVDC power cable solution for Johan Sverdrup 2 to deliver electricity from the Norwegian grid to offshore oil fields. Power from onshore to oil platforms is an environmentally sustainable solution that greatly reduces carbon dioxide emissions from oil and gas production.

Johan Sverdrup is one of the five major oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf and one of the most important industrial projects in Norway, which will have a great impact on Norway's energy development in the next 50 years.

Michael Hedegaard Lyng, president and CEO of NKT, said: "I'm glad that we continue to work with our long-term customer Equinor Energy AS. I think this award is a testament to our high quality DC technology capability and our ability to provide a turnkey solution as a differentiating factor. Johan Sverdrup 2 has further consolidated our leading market position in the oil and gas fields, combined with offshore wind power and the Internet, which has brought good growth opportunities for NKT.

In early 2018, NKT completed the supply and installation of HVDC offshore power cable solutions for the first phase of Johan Sverdrup development project. Installation of NKT Victoria, a leading cable laying vessel owned by NKT, takes place at a depth of 600 metres, marking one of the deepest bundled HVDC cables in the world. In addition, NKT's Johan Sverdrup 1 solution now constitutes the world's longest offshore oil and gas platform facility for extruded offshore cables.
